Recycling is the law in Westchester and residents seem to have recognized its importance based on the success of the first Household Recycling Days earlier this spring.
Now as summer winds down, you may once again be cleaning out the house to discard unwanted air conditioners and empty barbecue tanks. If you are, bring them directly to Household Recycling Day events. The next event is Oct. 24 and 25 at Croton Point Park.
Also accepted for the first time are:
- Washers
- Dryers
- Stoves
- Refrigerators
- 5-, 10- and 20-pound barbecue propane tanksas well as all types of batteries, including vehicle and non-rechargeable batteries
Household Recycling Day (HRD) events provide both E-Waste and Mobile Shredder services as well as collection of many recyclable materials not normally collected curbside. You can now bring expired medications and plastic bags to HRD events. Besides electronic items, plastic bags can also be brought to E-Waste Days. These free services are available on a year-long schedule and are open to Westchester residents only.
The Mobile Shredder serves a dual purpose: It condenses the tonnage of paper being recycled and it helps protect residents from identity theft. Learn how to prepare paper for this free bulk shredding service. The service will be provided rain or shine. Papers from businesses or commercial enterprises will not be accepted.
